How to Compose

In a song, there are typically two parts: verses and a chorus.

Think about “From the Tiny Ant”.

Verse
~~~~~
From the tiny ant, to the elephant,
From the snake to the kangaroo.
From the common tern, to the crawling worm,
Care for them, it's up to you.
Chorus
~~~~~~
Care for them, it's up to you, care for them, it's up to you.
Care for them it's up to you, it's up, it's up, it's up to you!

song making tips

Add a Contrasting Chorus
  • Can you have bigger jumps than in your melody? Try mixing high and low notes rather than moving in step.
  • Can you change the rhythm in the chorus? If you use lots of percussion sounds in the verse, try doing the opposite in the chorus.
  • Experiment until you are happy!
